Progress in project to fight human trafficking

On Wednesday, the Human Rights Commission of the Legislative Assembly ratified a bill that aims to strengthen the fight against human trafficking.

The initiative, promoted by legislator Sandra Piszk, from the National Liberation Party (PLN), reforms two articles of the Criminal Code and two others of the Law against Human Trafficking to go hand in hand with international regulation.

Piszk explained that the reforms will harmonize the Costa Rican legislation with broader legal categories to facilitate the work of specialized agents.

This will allow them to combat activities related to organized crime, money laundering and corruption.

In addition, activities directly related to or derived from human trafficking, such as the transfer, collection, accommodation, transportation, reception or delivery of people who are victims of that crime.

This crime that is ranked third in the world due to the profits it gives annually to organized crime, according to reports from international organizations.
