López’s wife denies that Venezuelan opposition leader negotiated release

July 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Leopold López’s wife, Lilian Tintori, denied on Sunday that the house arrest measure granted to the Venezuelan opposition leader was negotiated, saying it was a “unilateral decision” by the government and the Supreme Court.

There was no negotiation for Leopoldo to be in his house (…) It was a unilateral decision of the government. He will never negotiate freedom, human rights or dignity,”

Tintori told reporters.

Late on Saturday, López was transferred from Ramo Verde military prison to his residence in Caracas by order of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), claiming “health reasons.”

Lopez’s wife and mother of their two children said that in the last few days in her husband lost six pounds, had serious stomach problems and received cruel and inhuman treatment.

Tintori acknowledged that chavista leaders Delcy Rodríguez –former foreing relations minister – and Jorge Rodríguez led the party that moved the most emblematic of the 431 political prisoners in Venezuela.

Tintori was grateful for the efforts in favor of the release of López made by the former president of the Spanish government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

Leopoldo said yesterday: I will not give up the fight, I will not give up. On the contrary, we will fight more,”

said Tintori, who called for an immediate solution to the Venezuelan political and economic crisis.

López had served three years and five months of the nearly 14-year sentence imposed on charges of “instigating violence” during protests he called against Maduro in early 2014, resulting in 43 deaths.
