Coast Guard keeps looking for Hilary boat

July 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The National Coast Guard Service maintains the search for the Hilary boat, which was going to carry out fishing work in the Central Pacific and left the docks on May 14th, in the province of Puntarenas.

The boat was going to Quepos and the last report was received on June 9th. The boat was expected in Quepos on June 13th, but it did not arrive. Subsequently, the wife of the captain of the boat filed the disappearance complaint.

Search operations have been ongoing by the National Coast Guard along with the United States frigates patrolling these areas.

Also, the alert was given to cargo ships heading for the Panama Canal. At the same time, US P3 aircraft have also been informed. They are in charge of patrolling the Costa Rican seas.

Meanwhile, the alert was also given to other countries including Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Nicaragua.

The Director of the National Coast Guard Service, Martín Arias, indicated that the vessels must have minimum communication elements, and have a satellite beacon, which allows identifying and monitoring all fishing vessels by satellite.
