Proposal for Municipalities to forgive debts

July 31, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Michael Arce, MP of the National Liberation Party (PLN), proposed to authorize the municipalities of the country to make a complete cancellation of the payment of surcharges, interest and fines owed to them by taxes, fees and services.

The legislator presented a bill that seeks to extend the authorization to property tax, until the quarter immediately prior to the entry into force of the project, if approved.

The cancellation cannot exceed the term of one year and each Municipal Council would decide if it accepts the law.

The text clarifies that the authorization would only be effective if the taxpayer or debtor cancels all the main debt during the established period.

I have noticed an increase in the presentation of projects for the authorization of tax forgiveness. If we carry out a single project with general effects, the Legislative Assembly could save a lot of money and time,”

said Arce.
