Uber competition launched on Tuesday

August 15, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Nova Transports application was launched on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. The new app is now Uber’s competition in the market of people transport.

After two weeks of closed testing, the application is ready for all of Costa Rica to use it. We will operate throughout the national territory,”

said Alejandro Vega, Communication Manager of the Company.

Nova Transportes will offer better rates (up to 25% cheaper) for the user, the possibility of traveling without a dynamic fare and the option to choose the driver of their preference, in addition to being the only 100% Costa Rican collaborative transport company.

The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, where you will find yourself as a New Passenger.

The company said that in order to use Nova’s technology platform and offer its services, drivers must pay a monthly fee of $35, without having to pay any commission for any trips they make.

People who want to register to work with Nova can do so in the driver app called Nova Conductor.

According to Vega, drivers must:
– Fill an online registration with vehicle documents and data
– Have all the legal requirement of the vehicle (plates, marking, technical review, etc.)
– Have an insurance against third parties, although it is not mandatory
– Upload photo ID and ID number
– A vehicle is from the year 2000 onwards

According to the Communication Manager, the service cannot be paid with credit and debit cards, but through the National System of Electronic Payments (SINPE) enabled by the Central Bank or with cash.

SINPE allows you to link your cell phone line to a fund account in colones for transactions.

From the first quarter, Nova began hiring people and recruiting drivers. Now it will officially compete with Uber, Rides Costa Rica and the digital alternatives offered by certain taxi cooperatives like Easy Taxi and others.
