Snake surprises a Scot who bought pineapple from Costa Rica

This week, a Scottish man from Edinburgh bought a pineapple produced in Costa Rica and it came with a live snake.

After unpacking the groceries, the man found the reptile that arrived from Costa Rica -for reasons that are yet to be explained.

The specimen is a member of the Leptodeira annulata family, which is distributed from Mexico to Argentina, according to the National Institute of Biodiversity (INBio).

In this territory it is usually found in national parks such as Amistad Caribe and Amistad Pacific or localities of the North Zone, Central Pacific, Tortuguero or Osa.

It is a nocturnal and arboreal species that feeds on frogs, toads and lizards, frog eggs and even juvenile rodents,”

explains INBIo on its website.

The news in Scotland, published by BBC, noted that the snake was relocated to a rescue center where it is being treated. Not being a native species, they feared the weather conditions of the Scottish capital would jeopardize the life of the animal.

‘Ricky’, as it was called, was handled by the Charity Center for Animal Welfare in Scotland ( SPCA ).

According to BBC, the supermarket chain Aldi opened an investigation to determine what happened. The case was treated as an ‘isolated incident’.

In March 2015, a Costa Rican banana bundle caused fears in a supermarket in England for containing dangerous spider eggs.
