Costa Rica also raised its voice against North Korea

September 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Costa Rica showed its rejection to the North Korean nuclear test, which launched a hydrogen bomb on Sunday. The blast generated a 6.3-degree tremor in that area and was felt in China and South Korea.

Foreign Minister Manuel González made his remarks at the closing of the VIII Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Forum of Cooperation of Latin America and East Asia, which was held in Busan, Korea.

Gonzalez reiterated

the need to continue to take urgent and forceful measures, within the framework of international law, to control this threat, as well as denounce the attitude of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”

The Costa Rican Minister made the call with his counterpart in South Korea, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, indicating that support should be given to the actions of the United Nations Security Council.

Costa Rica, true to its tradition in favor of peace and dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts, will continue to demonstrate strongly in favor of total denuclearization and non-proliferation,”

the statement said.

For many years and in various administrations, the country has been a leader in various international scenarios such as the UN, in messages and actions for nations to ban nuclear weapons.
