Families evacuate Bajo Los Anonos due to risk of collapse

September 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

More than 120 people were forced to evacuate their homes on Sunday afternoon in Bajo Los Anonos, in EscazĂș, due to a landslide that affected the area.

The landslide began on Calle Los Mangos and also affected La Quebrada street, according to Arnoldo Barahona, Mayor of the canton.

Several people decided to remove their belongings and valuables from the houses, as the land was likely to yield with the rains in the following hours.

The National Emergency Committee (CNE) will assess the area on Monday.
