Tibás bets on cameras to strengthen security

September 19, 2017 by Staff News Writer

With the aim of strengthening security in the canton, the Municipality of Tibás announced that it has officially initiated the placement of 82 devices that will be located in 33 points.

The plan emerged at the end of 2016, following a wave of violence in Tibás, placing the canton among the areas with the highest homicide rates in the country.

The works are in charge of Radiográfica Costarricense (Racsa) and it is expected to be completed in approximately 30 days. The municipality ensures that faces can be detected and recorded in high definition.

We are going to have a first world technology. We have already seen the Data Center where all the information that will generate the video surveillance system will be stored and it is top noch. The cameras are high definition and that will help us a lot to tie delinquency,”

explained Carlos Cascante, Mayor of Tibás.

The 33 points respond to the strategic points of the canton and there will be two monitoring centers. The monthly investment for the project is approximately ¢8 million. The contract was signed for a period of five years.
