The government of the Republic is considering the possibility of requesting a loan for $20 million (about ¢11.3 billion) to address the emergency caused by Tropical Storm Nate.
The loan will be requested in the coming days from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), confirmed Helio Fallas, vice president and finance minister.
In order to manage infrastructure works of greater complexity, we have begun a process of analysis of mechanisms to access a $20 million loan by the IDB,”
said Fallas during a press conference.
In addition, two non-reimbursable cooperation amounts are processed for emergency care. The first is also managed with the IDB for $200,000 and the second with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for $250,000.
The purpose of this economic cooperation is to take care of the immediate costs generated by the tropical storm.
We have infrastructure works that need to be addressed immediately, as well as bringing food to various communities, but we also have to deal with complex works such as rebuilding bridges and roads. We have to consider all the options,”
added the vice president.
The Presidential House stressed on Monday that it is impossible to get ahead in the attention of the damages only with these resources or with the approval of an extraordinary budget.
