According to the Municipality of San Jose, there are 1,232 vacant lots, scattered among 11 districts in the central San Jose region. Properties include those that are used as illegal dumps, have buildings in ruins, lack sidewalks, or have been abandoned or invaded by vagrants. City officials hope to contact and compel owners to clean up and enclose their properties in order to prevent crime and pest infestations.
