November 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

From Monday until Friday, the National Medical Congress will held in its 79th edition. It is part of a call made by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Costa Rica and this time it is held in Garabito.

Marino Ramírez, coordinator of the Congress, explained that this time the theme is “Climate Change and its impact on the Health of Costa Rica and the World.”

Ramírez believes that some of the most important topics to be addressed are heat stroke, sports involvement for those who perform physical activity, skin cancer, mental health and the increase of psychiatric diseases and their relationship with climate change. The diseases transmitted by vectors, such as dengue, chikungunya and zika, will also be discussed.

More than 200 exhibitors will share with doctors who work both publicly and privately on the new problems and approaches for the treatment of the population.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that between 2030 and 2050, there will be around 250 thousand deaths per year due to excessive heat, diarrhea, malaria and malnutrition, and that health will also be compromised by waterborne diseases.
