32 thousand migratory movements per day since December 15th

January 3, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Since the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners (DGME) began the special operation of the end and beginning of the year, on December 15th, an average of 32,000 migratory movements were recorded in all the borders.

On January 2nd, after 17 days of the operation, the DGME reported 540 thousand movements. With greater flow at Juan Santamaría International Airport and the Northern Border, in Peñas Blancas.

As is usual in this period, the numbers in the migratory post increase. However, the entity insists that they are prepared to face the situation.

Inevitably, the flows will increase. But we are prepared with the readjustment of the systems and the reinforcement of the personnel. The waiting lines are normal in this period. We do not have any issue that will slow us down the processing of movements or people,”

said Esteban Obando Arias, deputy director of Migration.

The DGME confirmed that some 3,000 people have been rejected, due to immigration anomalies reported at the time of their entry.

The border posts of Peñas Blancas and Paso Canoas were reinforced with prominent officers from San José. The border post of Las Tablillas was reinforced by officers from San Carlos, and the Sixaola post by Limón officers.
