New call in Zapote against animal exploitation

January 4, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Different civil organizations are calling for a peaceful demonstration on the outskirts of Zapote, on January 6th, where the traditional bullfights are held, since the activity is animal exploitation and abuse.

We want to focus precisely on what is happening in the bullrings, the tope, all that we call part of our culture,”

said Arturo Barrantes, coordinator of the organization Save Movement Costa Rica, one of the organizers of the protest, who added that

this is to make people aware, so that they stop participating in this, and then they will stop seeing it as an economic source (…) These events have to disappear.”

As of 1:00 p.m., they will show up with posters, flyers and exhibitions for the people who will be in the vicinity of the ticket office. They will also approach with water to give to the animals that arrive by truck to the fairgrounds.

The first demonstration outside the arena was held on December 30th, with the participation of Save Momevement, Animals with a Voice and the Animal and Earth Resistance Front.

Every year in Zapote hundreds of bulls are tortured with the protection of the State (National Animal Health Service), which protects the exploiters, and for the economic benefit of farmers, television and the municipality of San José. This is violent entertainment and profit in the name of tradition,”

said the organize on Facebook.
