Did you know that coffee is also used to prepare eggnog, liquor, pastry and yogurt? If you want to delight your palate with these and other coffee-based preparations, you must visit the 3rd edition of Expocafé Tarrazú from February 16th to 18th at the San Marcos de Tarrazú Park, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Ana Lorena Rovira, Mayor of the Municipality of Tarrazú, said that this activity works as a business platform that promotes the exchange of knowledge and alliances between producers and local and international buyers and sellers; which helps the economic and social development of Los Santos.

Coffee lovers will have the opportunity to learn a little more about this fruit from the producers themselves. It is important to mention that we always try that the visitors find the products at a ‘fair price’, which varies according to the preparation. However, the exhibitors have very affordable prices,”

said Rovira.

The activity will be free and will bring together the best 60 small entrepreneurs in the area of Los Santos, offering visitors food, crafts, beauty products, and costume jewelry made with gold. Additionally, tours will be offered to learn about the coffee process from the sowing to the cup.

If you visit the 2018 Expocafé Tarrazú you will be supporting the producers of this area, which was severely affected by Storm Nate last October.

Los Santos was very affected by this weather event. That is why we need Costa Ricans and foreigners to visit us during the three days of the fair. We guarantee that you will acquire different types of coffees, recognized worldwide for their quality standards,”

said Patricio Solís, manager of Coopesantos.

On February 17th and 18th there will be concerts by Son Mayor and Son de Tiquicia. In addition, there will be barista demonstration, Zumba classes, inflatables, pintacaritas, and a race.

Data from the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (ICAFÉ) assure that in 2016, 84,133 hectares were harvested in the country, with Los Santos Area being the main producer (36.6% of the total.)

Nearly 90% of the total coffee produced is exported to markets such as the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Ukraine, among many others.
