Law against nepotism was approved in the Legislative Assembly

On Wednesday, the Legislative Assembly approved on second reading the law that prohibits the appointment of relatives of legislators in Congress.

The initiative, promoted by the legislator Gerardo Vargas Varela, from the Frente Amplio, had 43 votes in favor.

p style=”text-align: justify;”>The regulation reforms article 49 of the Law of Personnel of the Legislative Assembly, in order to prohibit legislators from hiring people who are linked by kinship of consanguinity or affinity in a direct or collateral line up to the second degree.

The proposal will govern as of the date of its publication in the official gazette La Gaceta.

According to the law,

nepotism is incompatible with this democratic social rule of law.”
