Country doubles investment in drinking water and sanitation

The country doubled the investment in drinking water and sanitation in the last four years, according to the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (AyA).

According to the institution, in 2017 Costa Rica achieved 93.9%of drinking water coverage, one of the highest indicators in Latin America. The investment to guarantee access to drinking water and sanitation reached ¢ 219.889 million between 2014 and 2017, while between 2010 and 2013 it was ¢106.509 million.

AyA also reported that in 2017 Costa Rica managed to level the investment in the two services it provides: ¢ 23,163 million in potable water and ¢ 22,952 million in sanitation.

In addition, in that year the management improvement item was ¢ 32,435 million and that of project formulation of ¢ 34,000 million.

We have projects in the Greater Metropolitan Area, Guanacaste, the Central Pacific, the Caribbean and the South Zone, with the authorization of new water sources, construction of aqueduct infrastructure, treatment plants, pipes, and storage tanks,”
