The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP) recognized the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the battle it has waged against corruption in the country in recent months.
On behalf of the institution, Attorney General Emilia Navas received the tribute and said that this should be done for the defense of the most vulnerable people.
President-elect Carlos Alvarado participated in the activity in the main table with the businessmen congregated in the organization.
Alvarado said that the work of Navas is a sign that it is possible to renew the confidence of the citizens in all public institutions.
Navas reached the highest position of the Prosecutor’s Office on October 13th 2017 on an interim basis, following the administrative suspension of Jorge Chavarría Guzmán (who later reactivated his retirement) and little by little she won the support of the population for her convincing participation to solve cases such as Cementazo, Yanber, Crucitas, or the investigations against former magistrate Celso Gamboa.
Four months later, on March 13th, Navas (53) was elected as Attorney General for the next four years. A historic vote, since the Full Court unanimously appointed her with 22 votes and made her the first woman to occupy the position.
