This is the new map of Costa Rica

April 25, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Almost three months after the ruling of the International Court of Justice (CIJ), the government of Costa Rica presented the new map after the definition of the maritime boundaries with Nicaragua.

The map presented on Monday will be the official map of the country from now on and, according to the governmental authorities, and it has more than 36 thousand square kilometers of territory won to the neighboring country in the territorial battle.

With the February ruling, the CIJ accepted the Costa Rican position and granted its sovereignty in the northern sector of Isla Portillos.

In the resolution, the ICJ also favorably established the maritime borders between both States, both in the Caribbean Sea and in the Atlantic Ocean,”

said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC) in a press release.

The new document will be very useful for public institutions, especially the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) and the work of maritime patrolling.
