Plan to attack narc assets becomes a legislative priority

June 12, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The draft Law of Extinction of Domain, which seeks to snatch assets and cut funding for organized crime and drug trafficking, went to the first place in the discussion in the Legislative Assembly.

After placing it in the first place of discussion, the plan is for a commission to analyze it and apply the necessary changes to vote it in the first reading as soon as possible.

Gustavo Viales, from the National Liberation Party and member of the Drug Trafficking Commission, pointed out that there are some doubts that should be clarified, such as how the initiative will be implemented.

The project, based on the search for a mechanism that avoids the financing of criminal activities such as drug trafficking and related crimes, seeks the creation of a jurisdiction and a special process with civil, administrative, and criminal elements that allow the confiscation of property to individuals who cannot prove the origin of their assets.

The consensus agenda also includes the bill for the strengthening of conditional transfers to the Avancemos program, the Agrarian Procedural Code, the name change of the Social Protection Board, the Family Welfare Act, a reform of the Law of the Council of Higher Education (Conesup), among others.
