Trump signs decree to end family separations at the border

June 20, 2018 by Staff News Writer

US President Donald Trump signed a decree on Wednesday aimed at ending the controversial separation of immigrant families at the border, reversing a practice that generated international contempt.

I did not like to see families separated,”

said Trump said at the signing ceremony in the Oval Office, after announcing earlier, in a dramatic change of speech, that he would end this controversial measure.

We will have very strong borders but we will keep families together,”

said the president of the United States, who in early May launched a policy of “zero tolerance” towards illegal immigration, which has resulted in the separation of families.

I think that anyone with a heart could act in the same way,”

he added, noting that his daughter Ivanka and his wife Melania had very strong feelings on the subject.

The exact content of the text he signed in front of the journalists was not communicated by the White House. According to the New York Times, the decree would authorize the detention of parents with their children for an indefinite period.
