Carlos Alvarado: “Many speak of abortion to make themselves visible”

July 5, 2018 by Staff News Writer

President Carlos Alvarado said on Thursday that there are many people who want to discuss the issue of abortion now because it is the only way they can make themselves visible.

According to Alvarado, he has a commitment to the issue of therapeutic abortion, but he has four years to get around it. In 2017, he had assured that

abortion must be applied as established by law, in cases where the life or health of the woman is at risk.”

However, to apply this therapeutic abortion, it is necessary to create a technical norm that regulates it.

Patricia Mora, Minister of the Status of Women and President of the National Institute for Women (INAMU), has promoted the approval of this norm. However, the Minister of Health, Giselle Amador, has assured that for now the issue is not a priority.

Amador had told CRHoy.com that the norm for therapeutic abortion will not advance at the moment due to an agreement between President Carlos Alvarado and the Minister of the Presidency, Rodolfo Piza, within the framework of the unity government presented before the second electoral round.
