Stronger Police Presence in Jacó during Vacation Period

July 9, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Public Force has different operations in the entire canton of Garabito, Puntarenas, to avoid vacationers from becoming victims of crime.

Jacó is a favorite destination for hundreds of Costa Ricans and foreigners, so with the increase of visitors in recent days, officers have patrols, roadblocks, searches in bus terminals, shopping areas, places where people leave their vehicles, and beaches.

So far the Public Force has arrested 316 people, mainly for violation of the Law of Psychotropic substances, crimes against property, crimes against public authority, or illegal possession of firearms.

In addition, almost 1,000 doses of drugs have been seized, specifically, 76 doses of cocaine, 500 doses of crack, and 382 doses of marijuana. In addition, three firearms were confiscated.

The bridge over the Tárcoles River is one of the points with the greatest police presence, since there are often thefts due to the high number of people arriving to the well-known tourist attraction.

Do not neglect your belongings if you are going to enter the sea or a swimming pool and do not lose sight of the minors; know where they are at all times,”

said Henry Quesada, head of the Garabito delegation.
