Government promises new hospital in Puntarenas by 2021

July 11, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The president of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), Fernando Llorca, assured there are five bidders formally constituted to build the new hospital in Puntarenas. If they present turnkey projects and there are no appeals, the award would be given in the next few months.

The hierarch hopes the Hospital to be built by 2021. Llorca mentioned that the CCSS invested $14 million in the rehabilitation of the old hospital, Monsignor Sanabria. Now, more than $200 million were budgeted for the new facilities. The project will have 350 beds, becoming one of the largest and most modern regional hospitals.

On Wednesday morning, during a visit to Puntarenas, the Government discussed the issue, before the different socioeconomic needs of the coastal province. President Alvarado admitted that he worries about the delivery date and the specialties that will be given in the new Monsignor Sanabria Hospital.

In September 2013, then President Laura Chinchilla, on a visit to the new modules of the MonseƱor Sanabria Hospital in Puntarenas, announced that the new medical center would be built on 150,029 square meters of land donated to the CCSS by the National Production Council (CNP). The land was formally delivered on January 8th, 2014, by the Ministry of Finance as payment for the debts the State has with the CCSS.
