President announces entrance expansion to Puntarenas

July 12, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday, President Carlos Alvarado informed the population about the next expansion of La Angostura section, which allows access to downtown Puntarenas.

That section of National Route 17 will be extended from two to four lanes, according to the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Rodolfo Méndez Mata, who accompanied the President this Wednesday on the tour to Puntarenas.

The studies will be contracted with resources from the Transportation Infrastructure Program, which has funds from the loan of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The authorities estimate that the project can be completed by the end of next year.

According to the Ministry’s data, 16,000 vehicles pass through La Angostura every day, so it is necessary to solve the funnel effect that affects the area.
