Slight eruptive activity in Turrialba Volcano

July 25, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Since Monday, Turrialba Volcano started a mild eruptive period, as reported by the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

That scientific institution indicated that the activity consists mainly of sporadic exhalations; that is , with a very low plume of materials and with a diluted ash content.

According to OVSICORI, ashfall was reported in some areas of the Central Valley, such as Coronado, Tibás, Moravia, and other places.

Some users of the social networks of the entity said they perceived a smell of sulfur in the northeast of the capital, and the presence of ash in places such as Tibás.
