Alvarado suspends Government Council to visit victims of rains

July 29, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, canceled the meeting of the Governing Council on July 31st, at the Presidential Palace, to visit the victims of the rains in the Caribbean, according to an announcement by the Presidency.

Alvarado will be in Talamanca and Valle La Estrella, two of the most affected towns after tropical wave # 20 last week. He will go to the area with leaders and representatives of the Ministries of Public Works and Transport, Agriculture and Livestock, and Tourism. He will also be accompanied by authorities from the Rural Development Institute, the Joint Social Assistance Institute, the Port Administration and Development Board of the Atlantic Coast, and the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers.

As part of the agenda, the president will carry out, together with the President of the National Emergency Commission (CNE), Alexander Solís, a flyby to observe the effects of the Talamanca and La Estrella dams on roads and bridges.

The presidential entourage will hold meetings with the municipal emergency committees of Limón in Valle de la Estrella, to provide inter-institutional assistance to the affected communities. Later, he will move to the Bribrí Red Cross, in Talamanca.

Since July 13th, the country has been hit by different tropical waves that have caused landslides, floods, damages in roads, bridges, dykes, sewers, and even killed a person.

The CNE, together with the institutions of first response, continue the work to resolve the main effects.
