Chinese community protests against crime wave in Limón

July 29, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Saturday, the Chinese community in Limón starred a demonstration through the main streets of the downtown area in protest of the crime wave that hits the area and affects them directly.

The demonstration was led by the Chinese Limón Association and comes after several deaths of Chinese citizens at the hands of Costa Rican criminals.

The most recent incident against the community occurred last Tuesday when an Asian woman died after being wounded with a firearm in an apparent assault at a supermarket at the entrance of Pueblo Nuevo de Limón.

This is not the only violent death in the province in recent days:
-A man was also wounded with a firearm in Siquirres de Limón.
-On Friday there was another violent act when several individuals assaulted the Palí de La Rita supermarket in Pococí, Limón.
-The previous weekend a group of men traveling in two vehicles ended the lives of three young people in the Roosevelt neighborhood.

Edaurdo Cruickshank, legislator of the province, criticized the easy access to firearms in the country, which in his opinion is one of the aspects that must be fought by the government.
