“Taza de la Excelencia” selection process starts

The national taste selection process for the coffee grains that will participate in the ninth international electronic auction “Taza de la Excelencia”, will start on May, 9th.

This event is organized by the Asociación de Cafés Finos de Costa Rica (Scacr), representative of the Alianza para Café de Excelencia organization and it hosts coffee producers, processers and exporters, registered in the Instituto del Café de Costa Rica (Icafé). Other sponsors include BAC San José, Coricafé, Exclusive Coffees, Tesoros del Café, CoopeDota, R. L., Volcafé, Santa Laura Exportadora de Café and Grain Pro Costa Rica.

The national taste selection will end on May, 13th. The grains that get through this first selection stage will be examined by a board of international tasters from Taiwan, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Norway, United States, Australia, Denmark, Germany and United Kingdom from May, 16th until May, 20th at the Wyndham Herradura hotel.

The grains that get through the international selection stage will be sent as a sample to clients around the globe and will later be auctioned on June, 21st via Internet, at a base price of $ 5,5 per pound.
