Businessmen accuse the government of being “monothematic” in the first 100 days

August 7, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The business sector resents that in the first 100 days of the new government, the administration of Carlos Alvarado was focused only on the issue of the fiscal deficit and did not address with greater impetus other demands to improve competitiveness.

That is the balance made by the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of Private Enterprise (UCCAEP) of the first three months of this government.

On Monday, the president of this union urged the government to continue its quest towards healthy public finances, but asked them not to neglect other urgent issues.

Gonzalo Delgado, president of this organization, said that the government owes businessmen on issues such as the reduction of electricity rates, labor flexibility and the progress of procedures before the Environmental Technical Secretariat (Setena).

They also insist on promoting initiatives that take the Central Bank out of its interference only on macroeconomic issues. They ask that this entity addresses, for example, policies for the generation of employment.

Far from giving it a rating at this point of the management, UCCAEP feels “hopeful” that these issues receive more attention in the coming months.
