Entities ignored health problems near open air dump for seven years

August 8, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Health, the Municipality of Oreamuno de Cartag,o and the Administrative Environmental Court ignored for seven years the complaints about an open-air dump that generates pollution and health problems for the residents of Blanquillo Urbanization.

The Constitutional Chamber, after an appeal filed against the inaction of these institutions, ordered them to inspect and issue orders to correct the problem.

The Court was able to verify that the appealed authorities have been aware of the problem for at least seven years and that they have issued several administrative acts that have proved ineffective and inefficient,”

reported the Constitutional Chamber, via press release.

In the sentence Nº2018-11694, an inspection is ordered to verify the current state of the land within five days. In addition, they must issue sanitary orders and corresponding acts to address the complaints and inform the Chamber every three months about the proceedings, while the case is resolved.

The inaction of the Administration is not justified, the authorities appealed could -and should- act immediately,”

said the Chamber.
