Unions will appeal illegality declaration at the MEP

October 9, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesday, the Labor Court of the Second Judicial Circuit of San José determined the strike in the Ministry of Education Education (MEP) was illegal; however, the Association of Teachers (APSE) and the National Association of Educators (ANDE) claimed they will appeal this sentence.

This was confirmed by Roblin Apú, general secretary of APSE, who stated that they heard the ruling via social networks and not through formal notification.

It takes a due process that has to serve us to see what follows from here on. We have our attorneys and legal advisors who will help us make the appeals,”

said Apú.

The MEP asked its officials to resume their work immediately to reactivate the school year; however, APSE urged its members to remain calm and not despair.

There is still no 24-hour deadline to return to work, because that period only counts when it comes to final sentences until after it has been appealed, which has not happened yet,”

said the union.

ANDE informed through Facebook that they will lodge an appeal before the Court of Appeals. They also called for a Council of Representatives of Basic and Regional Branches to analyze the situation on Wednesday.
