October 15, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Monday morning, the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) recorded an eruption in Turrialba Volcano. The authorities indicate that it was possible to visualize an ash column that rose 1000 meters above the crater. This is equivalent to 4,340 meters above sea level.

The incident was reported at 5:42 a.m. and at the moment there are no reports of ash fall or sulfur odors.

The report by OVSICORI indicates there was a strong explosion that began on Sunday past 5 p.m. However, due to the weather conditions it was not possible to obtain more details.

After this eruption, moderate ash and gas activity began. According to the authorities, Turrialba Volcano increased its activity since the end of August 2018.
