Strike in the CNFL is illegal

October 16, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Labor Court of the First Judicial Circuit of San José announced on Tuesday that the strike promoted by the National Company of Power and Light (CNFL) was declared illegal.

According to Judge Allan Espinoza Miranda, the strike promoted by the Industrial Union of Electrical and Telecommunications Workers (SITET), the Trade Union of Engineers and Allied Workers (SIICE) and the CNFL Professionals Branch (FIPROFYL) is illegal because they did not meet the requirements.

In addition, it condemns each union to pay one million five hundred thousand colones.

The unions have three working days to appeal the ruling.

With this, there are already 20 sentences handed down at the moment. In 18 of the cases, the Courts have determined that the strike is illegal, while only the Institute of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (IAFA) and in the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers have received a favorable verdict regarding the strike.
