Hundreds of turtles were born in Guanacaste

October 24, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Playa Ostional in Guanacaste was the backdrop of a wonderful gift from nature: the birth of hundreds of Kemp’s ridley turtles.

The images show the small reptiles climbing the warm Guanacaste sands.

Ostional is one of the beaches in the world with ideal weather conditions for these turtles to spawn. This is one of the high seasons for national and foreign tourists who come to see arrivals and births.

This is what you should do if you see these turtles:

-Never remove the turtles from the nest, it is necessary that they leave at the precise moment.
-The best way to help them is to scare off predators (birds, dogs and crabs).
-It is important that they start their journey on their own, because that’s how they began using their muscles and lungs.

According to the Association of local guides of Ostional, the arrival of the turtles can add up to 100 thousand individuals in a few days and there are records of up to 300 thousand in less than a week.
