15 people have died in fires so far this year

Fifteen people have died in fires during 2018. In addition, there have been 932 emergencies due to fire in structures, 63 more incidents compared to those that occurred on the same period in 2017.

According to the report of the Fire Department, fires in residences, warehouses, and shops occupy the first three places. Likewise, during the last 48 hours, eight structural fires were controlled in:

• San Carlos, Pital (sawmill fire)
• Cartago, Paraíso (structural fire),
• Guanacaste, La Cruz (structural fire),
• Alajuela, Desamparados (structural fire)
• Puntarenas, Buenos Aires (fire in barnyard)
• Alajuela, San Pedro de Poás (structural fire)
• Limón, Pococí, Cariari (fire in commerce)
• Heredia, Barva (fire in stable)

The most recent deadly case occurred last weekend when a child was found dead inside a house that was consumed by the flames in San Ramón, Peñas Blancas.

The Fire Department expressed its concern over the increase in emergencies and called on people to take the necessary preventive measures in their homes.
