Trump wants to abolish citizenship by birth for children of migrants

October 30, 2018 by Staff News Writer

President Donald Trump wants to abolish the right to citizenship granted to all those born in US territory, according to an interview released on Tuesday.

We are the only country in the world where, if a person arrives and has a baby, he becomes a citizen of the United States with all the benefits,”

said Trump in the televised interview.

It’s ridiculous, and it has to end.”

The proposal comes shortly before mid-term elections, a campaign where the president has sought to place migration at the center of the debate.

However, the proposal is far from becoming a reality, since modifying the Constitution implies procedures that do not include the presidential decree.

They always told me that this needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? It’s not like that,”

added Trump.

In the interview with Axios, the president said he plans to sign a decree so that children born from immigrant parents in US territory, whether illegal or not, do not benefit more from that right.
