Ferry to Paquera will be suspended on Friday

November 19, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The ferry service to Paquera on the Nicoya Peninsula will be suspended for 10 days due to works to replace the ramp.

The maritime trans-shipment service will be canceled from November 22nd to December 2nd. On Tuesday, trips will be suspended at 3:00 pm from Puntarenas and 5:00 pm from Paquera.

Those who need to get to Paquera have two alternatives.

-A boat or a ferry from Naranjo beach. Then they must use the ballast road that goes from Naranjo beach to Paquera.

During the period of suspension, a temporary transfer service will be provided with boats, leaving the multipurpose terminal of Paquera and Los Plátanos dock, located behind the Puntarenas municipal market.

-A land option is on route 1 to Limonal, then deviate at the intersection of Pueblo Nuevo and taking the route that leads to Nandayure, Jicaral and finally Paquera.

According to the Maritime Division of the Port Maritime Division of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT), the ferry service will resume as of Monday, December 3rd, with the same schedules.

The final works for the replacement of the ramp have a cost of ¢400 million and they are needed since August 15th, 2017, when the ferry crashed into the access ramp on Paquera beach.
