Government launches “poli-visits” to face crime during Christmas and New Year

November 23, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Presidential House and the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) announced the operational plans to face the end and beginning of the year. The actions will be carried out by land, sea, and air. Carlos Alvarado, president of the Republic, and Michael Soto, head of the MSP, were present at the announcement.

Daniel Calderón, director of the Public Force, explained that they will launch an unprecedented operation due to the number of officials -of the different security units that exist in the country- who will join.

We will integrate the Mounted Police, as it has not been done for many years, so that they can be fully involved in the actions. Usually, they have been used to protect parks in the city,”

said Calderón.

Eduardo Solano, Vice Minister of Security, explained that they designed a special prevention program for the month of December: “poli-visits”, to have police presence in 21 communities (in San José, Alajuela, and Cartago), which had the greatest impact on crimes against life last year.

The “poli-visits” include not only police actions, but also social activities to involve the communities.

I want to tell common crime and organized crime that we are demonstrating power. We know that the situation is complicated. But, we will do what is possible and what is necessary to take this country forward,”

said Minister Soto.
