Government announces bill to modernize RECOPE

December 3, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Government of the Republic announced that in the coming days it will present a bill to modify the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE) with a view to the decarbonization of the economy.

From December 1st to April 30th, the Executive Power will have control of the Legislative Assembly through the extraordinary sessions.

Alvarado said that the bill aims to modernize the institution, not in terms of fossil fuels, but clean energy and decarbonization. Of course, he asked the support of the different legislative fractions.

Up to 70% of our energy as a country is still based on fossil fuel, which is why we will launch a plan to reform RECOPE,”

acknowledged Alvarado.

Government institutions already use electric vehicles. They hope to change the fleet completely towards this type of vehicles.

Two weeks ago, the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) announced that it supports the bill presented by Paola Vega, which seeks to establish December 31st, 2029 as the last day to import a vehicle that uses fossil fuels.
