Do you want to know how to make compost with household waste?

January 24, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Between 50% and 60% of the waste produced in homes is organic, which means that it naturally degrades and should not be included in the traditional waste. Instead, it could be used to nurture plants and gardens.

Julián Rojas, an academic at the National University (UNA), explains how to make compost with all organic waste such as husks and waste cooked food to help the environment. The only thing that is not recommended is bones, because they take a long time to decompose.

The process can be done in many ways, with composters that facilitate the process and in which the fertilizer is produced faster.

These are the steps you must follow:

-Separate: separate all food waste, raw skins, and place in containers.
-Composting: place the waste with sawdust or with ready-made composting.
-Mix: It is important that you mix or rotate the composter three times a day, for three minutes or more.
-Harvest: after four to six weeks the fertilizer is ready to be used.
-Cultivate: mix compost with soil and use it in an organic garden or garden plants.
