Free Consumers: Government is giving a lousy investment message

February 12, 2019 by Staff News Writer

According to Juan Ricardo Fernández, from the Association of Free Consumers the bill that aims to regulate collaborative transport platforms, such as Uber, gives a lousy message about investment.

Fernández said the government proposes

an excessive regulation that is not in accordance with the needs of the country and consumers (…) It is a terrible message for foreign investment.”

On January 22nd, the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) presented a project to legalize the service offered by platforms such as Uber, BeGoo, Cabify, among others.

Some of the measures establish an operating cost for these companies that would go directly to a fund to finance the renewal of the taxi drivers’ fleet. The charge for each trip would also be for the benefit of the red force. The latter said it agreed with 80% of the project.

On February 11th, the Association of Free Consumers and the economist Eli Feinzaig talked about this issue on the show Enfoques. This show is broadcasted Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m. on the Facebook site of CRHoy.com.
