Two American children tested positive for measles in Costa Rica

March 22, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The medical examinations conducted to four children from three and 10 years old, confirmed that two of them have the measles virus.

They live in Cóbano de Puntarenas and were treated at the local clinic because they had a fever and an outbreak on the skin.

They, their parents (missionaries) and other brothers are isolated in their home to avoid the spread of one of the most contagious viruses in the world.

The family of American origin has lived in the Pacific for several years and confirmed that they have not vaccinated their children and neither do they have them in the National education system.

These are exported cases, and the contagion occurred after a tourist from the United States, with symptoms of the virus, visited them a few weeks ago.

Daniel Salas, Minister of Health said that:

it is very likely that the rest test positive as well, since there was very close contact.”
