Tourist who gave measles to children in Cóbano also visited Turrialba

March 26, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The American tourist who gave measles to four children in Cóbano, also visited Turrialba. This forced the authorities of the Ministry of Health to make a “sweep” to rule out possible new cases.

The head of that ministry, Daniel Salas, confirmed that 113 people have been vaccinated in the area of Cóbano, where there is more vigilance work, due to sick patients.

Costa Rica gave a report to the United States, that a woman from that nation was the one who brought the virus into the country, because for six years there have been no reports of autochthonous cases in the national territory.

The four sick children remain isolated with their family.

The family of American origin, who has lived in Cóbano for two years, confirmed that they have never been vaccinated and that the minors are not enrolled in the national education system.
