Pregnant whale died with 45 pounds of plastic in its stomach

April 1, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The body of a pregnant whale got to a beach in Sardinia, Italy. The whale was eight meters long and, when the vets performed the autopsy, they found not only the lifeless fetus in her, but 45 pounds of plastic in its stomach.

Luca Bittau, president of the SeaMe Group, a non-governmental organization, told the media that inside the whale they found bags, fishing nets, tubes, a soap pack for washing clothes and another large amount of plastic materials.

Sergio Costa, Minister of Environment of Italy, posted a message on his Facebook wall, pointing out that despite this, there are still people who do not believe that pollution and global warming are major problems.

The dead animal was found in the waters of the tourist area of Porto Cervo, in Sardinia. We have chosen the comfort of disposable objects and now we are paying the price,”

warned Costa.

Last month, a whale died of starvation in the Philippines. The animal carried more than 70 pounds of plastic in the stomach.
