An American man will spend the next twenty years in prison, after being convicted of the murder of a Costa Rican woman.

The sentence was imposed by the Criminal Court of Pérez Zeledón against the man surnamed Ray, for the crime of femicide. The events occurred in September 2017, when an anonymous call sent the emergency authorities to a half-buried body in a property located in Pejibaye de Pérez Zeledón.

The body of the woman was already in a state of decomposition, in a kind of pit located 500 meters from the house of Ray, owner of a 200-hectare farm in the area. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Melania Calvo Víquez, had a relationship with the foreigner and was a victim of domestic violence.

In the home of the subject, the authorities found an AK-47 with 390 projectiles, a shotgun 12 with 106 cartridges, 107 projectiles caliber 38 and 44 projectiles caliber 45.
