The US leaves a forum on disarmament to protest against the presidency of Venezuela

May 29, 2019 by Staff News Writer

On Tuesday, the United States decided to abandon the Conference on Disarmament, an international forum of the UN that meets in Geneva, after Venezuela assumed the rotating presidency.

What happens here right now is an insult of propaganda,”

said US ambassador Robert Wood told reporters, saying that Venezuela is a pariah state.

Whatever they say there, what they decide, has absolutely no legitimacy because it is an illegitimate regime that presides over that forum,”

he added, referring to the government of Nicolás Maduro.

The US ambassador left the room immediately after the ambassador of Venezuela to the UN in Geneva, Jorge Valero, began to speak.
