Puma rescued in Tibás has a new home

June 3, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The puma that was rescued at the beginning of March in Tibás is already established in its new home: near forests and rivers, inside and outside protected areas of the Central Volcanic Mountain Range.

The feline moves within a radius of 20 kilometers. Its tracking is possible thanks to a satellite tracking mechanism that allows the country’s environmental authorities to know that the puma has managed to adapt to its new home.

The feline was discovered in the courtyards of some houses in Tibás center. With the support of the Ministry of Environment, Fire and Public Force, they captured and transferred it to the Braulio Carrillo National Park area.

According to Montalvo, the tracking and satellite monitoring of the puma is a vital tool to give early warnings in case the animal decides to venture into urban areas again.
