Inflation rose again in May

June 11, 2019 by Staff News Writer

In May, inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose by 0.14%, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

Of the 315 products that make up the CPI, 45% of them went up in prices, 44% went down and 11% remained stable.

During May, the goods and services that showed the greatest positive effect were: gasoline, onion and university education. On the other hand, automobile, tourist packages and accommodation services had the greatest negative effect.

In the first five months of the year, this indicator reached 0.60%, while at that time last year it was 0.40%.

Interannually, inflation stands at 2.32%, that is, within the goal established by the Central Bank.
