Government appointed new ambassadors in China and Qatar

The Government Council announced on Tuesday the appointment of the new ambassadors of Costa Rica in Qatar and China.

In Qatar, the economist Álvaro Mariano Segura Ávila was appointed, while political scientist Rodrigo Delgado Soto was appointed in China.

Álvaro Mariano Segura Ávila holds a master’s degree in Economics with an emphasis in Macroeconomics from the Catholic University of Chile, and since May 2018 he served as advisor to the Minister of Coordination of the Economic Team in the Presidency of the Republic. During the past Administration, he held various positions, such as Commissioner of the Economic Presidential Council, Commissioner of the Council of Competitiveness, Innovation and Human Talent, coordinator of the Advisory Group of the Economic Presidential Council and advisor to the Office of the First Vice President.

Costa Rican Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Rodrigo Delgado Soto, is a political scientist and expert in foreign trade and investment. He has a Bachelor’s degree of Arts from the University of Carleton, Canada.

He has held positions as Minister Counselor and Consul General of Costa Rica in Canada, Project Manager of the Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Canada, Government Consultant for the Federal Government of Canada (CIDA-CIDA), and to consult International Foreign Trade for the Department of Industry, Commerce and Technology (DITT) of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Both appointments will be effective as of July 1st.
